The tournament originally began two weeks prior. The Pirates earned their three points early in the match as they captured their second-straight title. WWPS also downed Hopewell Valley and Ewing 5-0 each in the last few days.2-Newark Academy (12-0)Last week: No. 2Newark Academy capped its Essex County Tournament championship on Sunday when it beat Montclair Kimberley in the final, 5-0. The Minutemen struck gold despite not having first singles Andrew Zielinski for the final or the semifinal win against Montclair. The Minutemen also won a key matchup with Millburn a day later, 4-1. Playing four matches in three days, NA also defeated Seton Hall Prep, 5-0.3-Pingry (8-1)Last week: No. 3Pingry secured its fifth Somerset County Tournament in a row this past Sunday as it won four individual titles on its home courts. The Big Blue were flight champs at second and third singles and both doubles positions. Pingry also went on the road this week and defeated Ridge, 3-2, and Rutgers Prep and Hillsborough, 5-0 apiece.4-Delbarton (14-1)Last week: No. 4Delbarton added two more wins to its impressive record this spring. The Green Wave defeated Dwight-Englewood, 3-2, despite seeing their third singles retire from the match early. Delbarton also downed West Morris with ease on Wednesday, and it next gets a tough matchup with Chatham on Friday.5-Ridgewood (8-0)Last week: No. 7Ridgewood continues to pick up well-earned wins. The Maroons improved to 8-0 with solid wins over Old Tappan (5-0) and Northern Highlands (4-1). They have impressed even with first singles senior Nikolas Martirossian still out with an injury. Freshman Nolan Sharma has stepped up in his place and is unbeaten.6-Princeton (5-1)Last week: No. 5Princeton cruised with three more wins in the last week. The Tigers cruised against Hightstown, Allentown and Notre Dame where they got to utilize different lineups. In turn, players got a chance to compete at different positions and backups saw playing time. Princeton’s schedule heats up again next week with West Windsor-Plainsboro North on the slate.7-Chatham (11-2)Last week: No. 8Chatham earned one of its top wins of the season on Monday when it defeated Montclair Kimberley, 3-2. Third singles Grayson Rivera shut out his opponent, and second doubles Chris Allen/Ranvir Iyengar only allowed a single game. Chatham also won at Montville, and it is preparing for a big matchup on Friday at Delbarton.8-Ridge (5-5)Last week: No. 9Ridge only played once this week, and it was a tight 3-2 loss at home to Pingry. First and second singles both went to tiebreakers, and second doubles was competitive as well. The loss snapped a three-match winning streak for the Red Devils who also took second at the Somerset County Tournament.9-South Brunswick (8-2)Last week: No. 12South Brunswick won the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament title on Thursday for the first time since 2019. The Vikings won at second singles (Oliver Chen) and third singles (Vidhyut Kumar) and had another finalist at first doubles. The Vikings also defeated Edison Magnet on Tuesday, 5-0.10-Montgomery (5-5)Last week: No. 13Montgomery fought hard in its 3-2 loss to West Windsor-Plainsboro South in the Moorestown Classic final on Monday. The Cougars won at first and third singles. Later in the week, they went on the road and downed Bridgewater-Raritan, 5-0 to snap a four-match losing streak. Each of the losses were to ranked teams.11-Bergen Catholic (12-0)Last week: No. 11Following its west coast spring break trip out in California, the Crusaders returned home to earn a pair of humongous victories this week. Bergen Catholic edged Don Bosco Prep, 3-2, before going down the Shore to beat Christian Brothers as well, 3-2. Against CBA, doubles Brian Song/Daniel Song and Justin Choi/Daniel Calianese both won 10-point tiebreakers after losing the second set. It was a gritty win for Bergen Catholic.12-Montclair Kimberley (14-4)Last week: No. 16Montclair Kimberley’s first singles Sean Wang won an epic match against Millburn to lift Montclair Kimberley into the Essex County Tournament final. Newark Academy won the match overall, but it was the first final round appearance in a long time for the Cougars. MKA then lost a close 3-2 encounter with Chatham a day later, possibly feeling the effects of its previous two matches. Nonetheless, it did manage to beat St. Peter’s Prep and Montclair both 5-0 to earn a well-deserved off day on Thursday.13-Millburn (9-2)Last week: No. 6Millburn was a few points away from reaching the Essex County Tournament final last weekend before falling 3-2 to Montclair Kimberley. After winning the first set, first singles Drew Gilbert led 4-1 in the second before Sean Wang stormed back to win the next six games to force a tiebreaker which the Cougar won. Millburn dropped its match with Newark Academy 4-1, but then closed the week by beating Columbia on the road. The Millers have a rematch with MKA on Monday.14-East Brunswick (6-3)Last week: No. 14East Brunswick came in second place at the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament this week. The Bears had won the event the past three years. East Brunswick’s doubles Jayden He/Romit Shah and Timur Savin/Ajay Geria captured individual titles. EB, which had 36 points to South Brunswick’s 40, was also close to at least a tie for the title with two singles matches left to finish.15-West Windsor-Plainsboro North (7-3)Last week: No. 10West Windsor-Plainsboro North is starting to get back on track. After dealing with some injuries earlier in the year, the Knights are getting healthier and their lineups reflect that. Charlie Xiang, Ravin Lalla and Lukas Karapelou are all back at singles. WWPN defeated Hightstown and Notre Dame this week to move to 7-3 on the year.16-Christian Brothers (13-1)Last week: No. 15Christian Brothers fell in a heartbreaker to Bergen Catholic on Thursday, 3-2. Both of the Colts’ doubles tandems came back after losing the first set to win the second, but each dropped their match tiebreakers. Still, Christian Brothers added three more wins since the last rankings came out against Rumson-Fair Haven (4-1), Red Bank Regional (5-0) and Glen Ridge (4-1).17-Morris Hills (9-4)Last week: No. 17Morris Hills won three 5-0 matches in a row this week against Morristown-Beard, Randolph and West Morris. First doubles Sheil Shah and Sarath Shayam had to fight in two tiebreakers, but otherwise the Scarlet Knights relatively cruised. Another match with Delbarton is scheduled for next week.18-Westfield (9-1)Last week: No. 18Westfield is starting to come together. Westfield has reeled-off seven wins in a row since a loss on April 5. The latest Blue Devils victory came in impressive fashion at Summit, 5-0. Singles Eshaan Khera is expected back soon since getting hurt earlier in the year.19-Lenape (7-0)Last week: No. 19Lenape has proven to be one of the top teams in South Jersey. The Indians are still unbeaten on the year following wins this week over Seneca (5-0), Eastern (5-0) and Moorestown (4-1). The Burlington County Open champs will look to secure the Olympic Conference Tournament title also next week.20-Marlboro (8-0)Last week: NRWelcome back Marlboro. The Mustangs re-join the rankings thanks to getting first singles star Sourish Gadhi back in the fold. Gadhi has been out all season until of late, and he won both of his matches this week.
