AT Overland Unveils the Aterra Slide-In: A Lightweight Solution for Adventurous Truck Campers

Arizona-based AT Overland, a prominent name in the American overland scene, has introduced an exciting addition to its lineup of truck camping solutions: the all-new Aterra Slide-In. This innovative camper turns popular truck models like the Toyota Tundra and Ford F-150 into versatile overland explorers, all while providing a hard-sided, standing-height shelter that promises comfort and convenience on the road.
The Aterra Slide-In caters to both seasoned adventurers and newcomers alike, offering a customizable experience. Potential buyers can opt to purchase it as a shell, allowing them to personalize the interior to their liking, or they can choose from a variety of pre-defined options to create a functional and adaptable floor plan. This flexibility is particularly appealing in a market where many campers weigh significantly more.
While ultralight slide-in campers exist, often tipping the scales at around 550 lbs (249 kg), the majority of the market consists of models that exceed 1,000 lbs (454 kg). This makes the Aterra Slide-In's weight reduction all the more remarkable. Thanks to its innovative honeycomb composite body construction, the Aterra Slide-In weighs in at an impressive 757 lbs (343 kg) for the base shell, a significant achievement considering its robust features.
Inside the Aterra Slide-In, users will find 6 feet 9 inches (2 meters) of standing height within fully insulated solid walls, eliminating the need for pop-up roofs or tent fabric that can compromise durability. The design boasts a cabover bed that includes a slide-out extension, creating a spacious RV king-size sleeping area measuring 74 x 80 inches (188 x 203 cm). The luxuriously thick 3-inch (7.6 cm) mattress ensures a restful night’s sleep, complemented by four dual-pane Tern windows equipped with screens and blinds for optimum ventilation and privacy.
The camper features a sturdy lockable Tern entry door for added security, and the walls are made from a 1-inch (2.5 cm) honeycomb composite material that achieves an R6 insulation value, while the beveled roof provides an R7 rating. Additionally, a polyurea coating protects both the exterior and interior from harmful UV rays, ensuring longevity and durability.
For those looking for a more comprehensive camping experience, AT Overland offers the Aterra Slide-In Standard model for an additional $2,000. This upgraded version includes all structural and interior features of the shell while adding an array of amenities. These include a front electrical cabinet with a cushioned seat, a 105-Ah Lion Energy lithium battery, a Redarc battery management system and charger, and a 185-W rooftop solar panel. Furthermore, it comes equipped with two foldaway wall-mounted tables and multiple USB and 12V outlets throughout the interior. A DC port on the roof allows users to connect a Starlink Mini satellite internet dish, perfect for those looking to stay connected while off the grid.
The Standard model also includes dimmable interior LED lighting and a comprehensive safety package that features an LP/CO detector, smoke detector, fire extinguisher, My Medic first aid kit, and a Fenix flashlight. With this added equipment, the total weight of the camper increases to 817 lbs (371 kg), which is still impressively lightweight compared to many competitors.
In addition to the camper's basic features, buyers have the option to further customize their Aterra Slide-In with a range of accessories sourced from top-tier brands specializing in off-road, RV, and overland products. Available options include the Truma Vario heater, a Nomadic Cooling rooftop air conditioning unit, a Joolca hot water heater, an exterior-mounted ensuite shower enclosure, a holder for a 10-lb propane tank, a MOLLE panel, a Trobolo dry composting toilet, and a 50-L National Luna fridge/freezer to keep food and drinks chilled.
The interior design showcases various bamboo and black composite furnishings, including various Heksa furniture and storage modules that cleverly incorporate Step 22 storage boxes for easy organization. Buyers can choose from additional options such as cushioned bench seats, a floor-mounted sink module with a basin and a 45-L water tank, multi-cubby cabinets, and a container designed to house the portable toilet.
AT Overland revealed the new Aterra Slide-In at last month’s Overland Expo Southern California event, positioning this model between the Aterra XL Flatbed camper, launched in 2021, and the Aterra Topper, a lightweight pickup bed wall-mounted version released in 2023. The Aterra Slide-In is priced at $29,995 for the shell version and $31,995 for the Standard model, with additional options available for purchase. Currently, this camper is designed for full-size ICE-driven trucks with bed lengths ranging from 5.5 to 8 feet, with plans to expand to midsize trucks with 5- and 6-foot beds by 2026. For those eager to embark on their next adventure, the expected lead time for new orders is between four to five months.
