RED Digital Cinema Unveils Cutting-Edge Innovations at the 2025 NAB Show

The highly anticipated 2025 NAB Show kicks off tomorrow in the vibrant city of Las Vegas. Among the exhibitors, RED Digital Cinema, a well-respected name in the film and broadcast industry, will be showcasing its latest cinematic innovations including the RED V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO [X] cinema cameras, both featuring the advanced Nikon Z-mount system. Additionally, attendees can expect an introduction to the new RED Cine-Broadcast technology.
From April 6-9, 2025, visitors to the RED booth (#N2038) will have the unique opportunity to engage in hands-on demonstrations that highlight the newest advancements in RED’s broadcast solutions, designed for both cinematic artistry and live broadcasting.
Introducing the Cine-Broadcast Module
At the NAB Show, RED will be presenting its cutting-edge Cine-Broadcast Module, a revolutionary tool that is now available for productions across the globe. This module is compatible with various RED camera systems including the V-RAPTOR XL [X], V-RAPTOR [X], and standard V-RAPTOR models. With its impressive capability to support live broadcasts across two channels at 4K resolutions and 60 frames per second (fps), the module promises to redefine live production standards. It utilizes 12G-SDI technology and complies with SMPTE ST 2110 (TR-08), facilitating seamless IP broadcasting. The module also supports a 4K 60P JPEG-XS feed, thereby offering versatility for different production needs.
One of the standout features of the Cine-Broadcast Module is its robust LEMO connector, which links to both a full rack 2U and half rack 4U base station. This design is tailored to enhance workflows, enabling advanced functionalities including slow motion capabilities, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) enhancements, and real-time streaming of 8K resolution content at 120 fps through the license-enabled RED Connect feature.
“RED is excited to share our groundbreaking Cine-Broadcast Module on the NAB show floor this year,” stated RED CEO Keiji Oishi. “This innovative technology will enhance productions worldwide by seamlessly blending cinematic and live broadcast imagery.” Major networks such as CBS Sports are already planning to incorporate the Cine-Broadcast Module into their productions, showcasing the extraordinary image quality that RED camera systems are renowned for.
Advancements in Broadcast Color Pipeline
In addition to the Cine-Broadcast Module, RED’s demonstration will also include the new Broadcast Color pipeline. This innovative feature enables live adjustments to be made to RED cameras within broadcast or streaming environments. It allows for on-demand color matching across multiple cameras, all controlled via traditional broadcast controls. This functionality comes as part of a firmware update for the V-RAPTOR XL and V-RAPTOR cameras, enabling users to have real-time control over painting parameters through industry-standard Remote Control Protocols (RCPs), while simultaneously saving metadata for each frame in recorded files.
RED is thrilled to announce a new integration with EVS’ XT-VIA® live production server, further enhancing broadcasting capabilities. This integration allows for impressive effects such as 4x super-slow-motion at 4K and up to 8x at 1080p, all while delivering dual baseband channels through the RED Cine-Broadcast Module. These advanced features are made possible thanks to RED’s RED Connect, which facilitates IP live streaming and supports advanced workflows that include real-time AI/ML augmentation.
“The successful integration of RED’s cutting-edge cameras with our XT-VIA server expands the range of UHD high frame rate solutions available to the market,” remarked EVS Product Marketing Manager Ignacio Revuelto. “This not only paves the way for cinematic quality cameras to elevate sports productions but could also accelerate the deployment of our LSM-VIA® system’s latest replay and zoom capabilities—delivering crystal-clear 1080p output from 4K sources. We’re excited to showcase these advancements at NAB and empower operators with even greater precision and creative flexibility.”
Highlighting the V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO-X
Among the major attractions at the NAB Show will be the newly released RED V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO-X cameras, which feature Nikon’s exceptional Z Mount technology. This proprietary mount provides filmmakers with unparalleled flexibility in lens selection, bringing a comprehensive capture solution that ranges from lens to sensor to codec. The Z Mount’s design offers a shallower flange depth and a broader diameter, which allows for lens designs that ensure higher sharpness and superior aberration control. In practical terms, users can expect remarkable low-light performance, edge-to-edge detail, and impressive autofocus capabilities from both the V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO-X cameras.
The RED V-RAPTOR [X] Z MOUNT is equipped with an industry-leading 8K VV global shutter large-format sensor, providing unmatched low-light performance, dynamic range, and high frame rates. Meanwhile, the KOMODO-X Z MOUNT features a compact 6K S35 global shutter sensor, capable of achieving frame rates of 6K at 80 fps and 4K at 120 fps, all within a remarkably lightweight form factor of only 4x4x5 inches and 2.6 lbs.
Conference attendees will also have the opportunity to explore a new bundled offering from RED Digital Cinema and Mark Roberts Motion Control (MRMC). This powerful combination comprises the RED KOMODO-X camera paired with the MRMC SR-1, featuring a power zoom lens that integrates cutting-edge image and lens technologies with a highly controllable and precise pan-tilt-zoom system. This innovative bundled solution is available for order and will begin shipping shortly.
As the NAB Show progresses, the excitement surrounding RED’s innovations is palpable, and industry professionals are eager to see how these advancements will redefine broadcasting and cinematic productions.
