Historically, Meta has shown reluctance to invest resources into building an Instagram app for the iPad, despite numerous requests from users. In February 2022, Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, addressed concerns raised by tech influencer Marques Brownlee on social media regarding the absence of an iPad app. Mosseri explained, We get this one a lot. Its still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now were very heads down on other things.

Fast forward to 2023, and Mosseri reiterated this sentiment, stating, Not working on it right now. I think its a good thing to do at some point. But we have only so many people working at Instagram, so weve got to pick the most important things to do to improve Instagram at any given moment. And right now, its not quite making the cut. This indicates a shift in focus within the company, although the timeline for when development might begin remains unclear.

While the current experience of using Instagram with the Stage Manager feature on newer iPads is relatively decent, and the web application has seen improvements over the years, users have long awaited a version that fully leverages the iPads larger display capabilities. A dedicated app would allow for enhanced functionality, improved navigation, and features tailored to the unique aspects of the iPad.
