Interchain Labs Launches IBC Eureka: A New Bridge Between Ethereum and Cosmos

Interchain Labs has officially unveiled its latest innovation, a bridge product named IBC Eureka, designed to connect the Ethereum and Cosmos blockchain ecosystems.
This cutting-edge solution builds upon the second version of the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, enabling rapid and cost-effective connections between the two prominent blockchain networks. The Cosmos Hub serves as the foundational support for IBC routing, as detailed in a press release shared with The Block.
Notably, Ethereum now stands as the first non-Cosmos network to integrate into the IBC ecosystem, marking a significant milestone in cross-chain connectivity. The architects behind IBC Eureka have ambitious plans to incorporate additional networks such as Solana, Base, and Arbitrum in the near future. The design aims to drastically reduce transfer costsencompassing both gas fees and relay feesresulting in total expenses of less than $1 for transactions originating from Ethereum into the Cosmos network.
Barry Plunkett, co-CEO of Interchain Labs, emphasized the advancements brought by IBC Eureka in an email communication with The Block. He stated, IBC Eureka represents a steep improvement in security and programmability for cross-chain communication. It will allow developers across Ethereum and Cosmos to build a new class of applications that unify and compose the liquidity and protocols historically fragmented across multiple chains. Our mission for 2025 is to continue to expand IBC Eureka, onboarding additional chains to create a truly unified Interchain economy.
Among the pioneering projects ready to utilize IBC Eureka are the decentralized exchange dYdX, the real-world asset-focused Layer 1 blockchain MANTRA, and both the Bitcoin liquid staking protocol Lombard and Bitcoin staking protocol Babylon.
Fisher Yu, the Chief Technology Officer of Babylon Labs, commented on the implications of this integration: The capability to bring Bitcoin Staking LSTs minted on Babylon Genesis into Cosmos over IBC Eureka marks a major step toward unlocking Bitcoins full DeFi potential. This integration enables seamless, secure, and efficient access to Cosmos DeFi for Bitcoin holders and brings us closer to Bitcoin alignment across every chain and the broader ecosystem.
Interchain Labs operates under the umbrella of the Interchain Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Switzerland that is dedicated to the development of the Layer 1 blockchain Cosmos and its surrounding ecosystem. The announcement of IBC Eureka follows successful operability tests conducted by Interchain Labs developers between Ethereum and Cosmos, which were reported in late March of this year.
