I played for Birmingham City and here's why they don't need to be jealous of Aston Villa Birmingham City are back in the Championship but they have a big day out at Wembley to take care of first Clinton Morrison celebrates his goal against Aston Villa Clinton Morrison insists Birmingham City should not be envious of what they see across the Second City – because they’ll be joining their rivals in the Premier League ‘very soon’. The former Blues striker, who spent three seasons at St Andrew’s and wrote a little footnote for himself in club folklore with goals in two derby wins, has been looking ahead to Sunday’s Vertu Trophy final at Wembley. He returned to Selhurst Park three years later but has never let the Second City rivalry escape him. Speaking to the EFL at Wembley he praised Chris Davies for securing promotion back to the Championship and urged Blues go on and emulate the league and cup double they achieved under Barry Fry in 1995. “It's been a brilliant season,” Morrison said. “Obviously getting promoted back to the Championship, a lot of pressure was on Birmingham City because of the amount of money they spent. “But you have always got to believe in the manager and the group of players and the hierarchy, fair play, they've got a great board there who are ready to deliver. This could be the icing on the cake to get the Vertu Trophy, I think it'll be fantastic. “The Birmingham City fans will sell out and they could even have had more fans. That's how big the football club is, but it'll be an unbelievable season if they can go back to back trophies. Hopefully they can do it on Sunday. “They could probably pack it just them alone, but 40,000 fans will be travelling down from the Midlands and having played for them and knowing what the fans are about, this is a good time for Birmingham City “Obviously they'll be jealous they're looking across the road and seeing what their rivals Aston Villa are doing, but they don't need to panic. We'll be back there very soon, but just enjoy what they're doing at the moment. “First and foremost I think for Birmingham City it was about getting promoted and they've managed to achieve that. Anything after that is a bonus, so this would be a brilliant bonus. “But in your career you don't get the opportunity to play at Wembley often so these players and these fans should really look forward to it and hopefully lift the trophy.” Article continues below Do you agree with Morrison?
