Now a days teenagers have developed various habits that slowly damages the internal organs of the body. Unlike other habits, one of the habits they have developed is ‘vaping’. According to the teens this habit is safe as the vape contains artificial flavours but the most concerning part is that they are wrong. Recently a 17-year-old-teen in Nevada was diagnosed with bronchiolitis obliterans, also called as popcorn lungs. The condition developed because of her vaping habit which she had developed during her early teens to handle the anxiety of returning to school after COVID-19 lockdown. According to the American Lung Association, popcorn lung is a rare, chronic disease. The disease was first discovered in a microwave popcorn plant. The workers developed this disease from breathing in diacetyl, an artificial flavour. What is Popcorn Lungs? The disease is a respiratory condition which affects the bronchioles, the small airways in lungs. The airways becomes inflamed, damaging and scarring because of inhaling toxic substances which is the prior reason for irreversible damage. The disease causes various symptoms like: Shortness of breath Persistent cough Fever or night sweats Popcorn Lungs known in layman language is a serious and irreversible lung disease. It can be caused due to inhaling artificial flavours especially diacetyl for long time found especially in e-cigarette or vape flavours. An artificial flavour called diacetyl is used to complement flavours. It is found in many cigarette and vape brands. The disease doesn’t have any proper cure or treatments.
