'His life was devoted to racing's best interests' - the senior course inspector who left a lasting legacy

Neil Wyatt might have worked behind the scenes in racing but he played a huge role in advancing the sport during his ten years as senior inspector of courses. Wyatt, who died last month at the age of 93, was a driving force behind improving the safety of horses and riders at racecourses and was responsible for ensuring that the rules laid down were adhered to. He started working for the Jockey Club in 1970 and was made senior inspector of courses in 1986, a position he held until retiring in 1996 at the age of 65.
