More info Plymouth Argyle kept alive their hopes of an improbable escape from Championship relegation with their come-from-behind 2-1 win against promotion-chasing Sheffield United at Home Park on Saturday. It leaves Miron Muslic's Pilgrims four points from a position of safety, given their goal difference is worse than all of the teams above them, with just four more matches to play. The first of those is away to play-off hopefuls Middlesbrough, whose squad includes former Argyle pair Finn Azaz and Morgan Whittaker, at the Riverside Stadium on Good Friday. Three of the Pilgrims' remaining games are against top eight sides, with sixth-placed Coventry City visiting Home Park on Easter Monday (April 21) and current leaders Leeds United coming to the Theatre of Greens for a season-ending fixture on Saturday, May 3. The only team that Argyle still have to play who are not at least in play-off contention are 16th-placed Preston North End, who will host them at Deepdale on Saturday, April 26. Of the sides fighting to escape relegation, the Pilgrims have the hardest remaining fixtures based on the average league position of their opposition, which is 7.75. In contrast, that figure is 17.0 for 21st-placed Derby County, who will play three of the current bottom seven. That includes a crucial home clash for the Rams on Good Friday against Luton Town, who are in 23rd position, above Argyle only on goal difference, and three points behind Derby. Another vital Good Friday match will see 22nd-placed Cardiff City, who have two more points than the Pilgrims, play away to Sheffield United, whose defeat by Argyle at the weekend leaves them five points behind the top two of Leeds United and Burnley. Seven of the eight teams in the bottom eight of the Championship table have four games left to play. The exception is Hull City, who are in 20th position and five more matches remaining, with the first coming against Coventry tonight. 24th PLYMOUTH ARGYLE Played 42 Points 40 Goal Difference -38 April 18: Middlesbrough (A) April 21: Coventry City (H) April 26: Preston North End (A) May 3: Leeds United (H) Average league position of opposition: 7.75 23rd LUTON TOWN Played 42 Points 40 Goal Difference -26 April 18: Derby County (A) April 21: Bristol City (H) April 26: Coventry City (H) May 3: West Bromwich Albion (A) Average league position of opposition: 9.75 22nd CARDIFF CITY Played 42 Points 42 Goal Difference -21 April 18: Sheffield United (A) April 21: Oxford United (H) April 26: West Bromwich Albion (H) May 3: Norwich City (A) Average league position of opposition: 10.0 21st DERBY COUNTY Played 42 Points 43 Goal Difference -10 April 18: Luton Town (H) April 21: West Bromwich Albion (A) April 26: Hull City (A) May 3: Stoke City (H) Average league position of opposition: 17.0 20th HULL CITY Played 41 Points 44 Goal Difference -9 April 14: Coventry City (H) April 18: Swansea City (A) April 21: Preston North End (H) April 26: Derby County (H) May 3: Portsmouth (A) Average league position of opposition: 14.8 19th PORTSMOUTH Played 42 Points 46 Goal Difference -16 April 18: Norwich City (A) April 21: Watford (H) April 26: Sheffield Wednesday (A) May 3: Hull City (H) Average league position of opposition: 14.5 18th STOKE CITY Played 42 Points 47 Goal Difference -11 April 18: Sheffield Wednesday (H) April 21: Leeds United (A) April 26: Sheffield United (H) May 3: Derby County (A) Average league position of opposition: 9.75 17th OXFORD UNITED Played 42 Points 48 Goal Difference -17 April 18: Leeds United (H) April 21: Cardiff City (A) April 26: Sunderland (H) May 3: Swansea City (A) Average league position of opposition: 9.75 You can read more of our Argyle stories from Plymouth Live by clicking HERE
