Drivers on a key Nottingham city centre route could be delayed again as part of construction works to transform a busy junction. A new stage of work has started on the junction of Maid Marian Way today (Monday, April 14), with Nottingham City Council warning the transformation of the former roundabout could yet again cause disruption. Work began in spring 2024 to turn the now-demolished large roundabout on Maid Marian Way, which connected the key city centre routes of Derby Road and Lower Parliament Street in Nottingham city centre, into a T-junction. An update from Nottingham City Council's highways team said: "From today until Saturday, April 19, we'll be working to put in the permanent signals at the main Maid Marian Way / Upper Parliament Street/Derby Rd junction. "These works will require lane closures to provide safe working space in the middle of the junction. While our roads should be less busy than usual due to the Easter holidays, please allow extra time if you're planning to travel through the area." Nottingham City Council, which is using £8.97 million from the government's ‘Future High Street Fund’ to fund the project, said the change would make the junction safer for cyclists and pedestrians. However, the new junction resulted in severe delays for motorists and the city's bus network in October 2024, forcing the city council to apologise and make changes to improve the situation.
