More info An NHS dental surgery in Cornwall has confirmed to its patients that it will close down for good in a few weeks due to recruitment issues and increasing costs. The mydentist branch has been informing all of its patients by letter of the closure which it says "has not been taken lightly". The surgery says the entire practice will close permanently at the end of May. It has blamed increased running costs and continued issues with recruiting dentists in the area, saying these problems have "prevented the practice from operating sustainably". It added that it understands this will be "disappointing news" for those registered. It is not clear exactly how many patients are registered at the surgery in Trewirgie Road, Redruth, but all will now need to find an alternative dental practice. As it stands, according to the NHS website, there is one surgery in the Redruth area potentially taking on new patients if you meet certain criteria. The rest show as not taking on any patients and there is currently a very long waiting list for dentistry on the NHS in Cornwall. The full letter sent to patients from mydentist said: "We are writing to you as an NHS dental patient at mydentist, Trewirgie Road, Redruth, to inform you, that practice will no longer be providing dental services from 30th May 2025. The practice will permanently close on this date." Unfortunately, difficulties experienced in recruiting dentists to the area and increasing running costs, have prevented the practice from operating sustainably. We understand that this will be disappointing news. "If you are currently undergoing a course of dental treatment, we will endeavour to complete this by 30" May 2025. Please attend any booked appointments as normal. You do not need to contact the practice. If you have an appointment booked with us after this date it will, unfortunately, be cancelled. "To help you to find another NHS dental practice, at the point you need your next routine dental check-up, you can search online using the NHS website located at https://www.nhs.uk/ If you have an urgent dental need, please contact NHS 111. "When you attend an appointment at your new dental practice, the new dental provider will not necessarily require your dental records. As such, there is no immediate need for you to request your dental records from us. After the closure of the dental practice, should your new dental practice require a copy of your dental records, please contact our mydentist Data Protection Team on dataprotection@mydentist.co.uk to obtain assistance. "We thank you for entrusting the practice with your previous dental needs and we wish you well with your future dental health. We are sorry that we have had to take this decision, and we thank you for your support of the practice during your time as a patient with us."
