It happened in Caldwell Road, at the junction of Belchers Lane in Bordesley Green, at around 7.30pm on Saturday, April 12. ‌ Article continues below Emergency services rushed to the scene and Caldwell Road was sealed off by police. A spokeswoman for the service said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a van and a pedestrian at the junction of Belchers Lane and Caldwell Road in Bordesley Green at 7.27pm on Saturday. “On arrival, crews found a teenage boy who they treated for potentially serious injuries. ‌ “He was then conveyed, under emergency driving conditions, to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.” West Midlands Police has confirmed that a man has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop. Shazad Ali, 40, of Tudor Street in Winson Green, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court. ‌ Get the latest BirminghamLive news direct to your inbox A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We've charged a man after a teenager was injured when he was hit by a vehicle in Caldwell Road at around 7.30pm on Saturday. “Shazad Ali, aged 40 and from Winson Green, was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop. He was appearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court yesterday, Monday, April 14. Article continues below “The 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital after sustaining broken bones.” Ali has yet to enter a plea and was remanded in custody. He is due to next appear on April 17 for a bail application and then at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday, May 12.
