Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he was told by the president of Honda Canada that a report suggesting some production in Canada and Mexico will move to the U.S. is “not accurate at all.” Ford also told reporters Tuesday that the company plans to send out a statement clarifying the situation. “We’re going to keep Honda here, and I’ll do everything I can to protect the people and their jobs,” he said. A statement provided by the office for Anita Anand, minister of innovation, science and industry, also confirmed the premier’s comments. “We are aware of the unconfirmed reports of future changes to Honda’s production plans for Canada,” the statement read. “We are in close contact with the company, and Honda has communicated that no such production decisions affecting Canadian operations have been made, and are not being considered at this time. Minister Anand will meet with the CEO of Honda Canada later today to discuss further.” Japanese financial news outlet, the Nikkei, reported Tuesday Honda was considering moving some of its production out of Canada because of U.S. President Donald Trump’s auto sector tariffs. More to come.
