AURORA, Ill., April 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In a vibrant celebration that brought together fans of literature and musical theater alike, author Karen Dix announced the release of her debut book, Broadway Blessings: A Weekly Devotional of Lessons from Musical Theater. The event was held at the iconic Paramount Theater in Aurora, a venue known for its rich history and commitment to the performing arts. The book is now available for purchase on Amazon, opening a door for readers to explore the intersection of faith and the world of musicals.

Dix, who has worn many hats throughout her careeras a writer, catechist, and former musical theater actressexpressed her excitement about this new venture. I've always found devotionals a useful tool to enrich my faith and prayer life, she remarked during the launch. Writing Broadway Blessings was a natural combination of two great loves of minemy faith and musical theater.

This unique devotional offers readers a weekly exploration into the Christian messages woven within the plots and characters of 52 different musicals, with each week dedicated to a specific lesson. Each chapter features a Christian principle paired with a reflective prayer, as well as a personal anecdote from Dix's own experiences related to each musical. This personal touch adds depth, inviting readers to connect not just with the stories of the musicals but also with Dix's own journey.

While Broadway Blessings is Dix's first published book under her name, she boasts a wealth of experience in the literary world. Over the last two decades, she has assisted countless authors as an editor, developmental coach, and ghostwriter, contributing to the success of several Amazon bestsellers. Dix is the founder of Big Ideas Writing, a content marketing firm dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized businesses develop compelling marketing messages and strategies, including the authorship of their own books.

Dix's dedication to nurturing the next generation is evident through her extensive work as a catechist for more than 15 years while raising her four children. She actively seeks out opportunities for spiritual growth and community service. Currently, she serves as the chair of the Joliet Diocese Catholic Committee on Scouting, where she aids the local Scouts in earning Catholic Scouting medals, fostering both personal growth and a sense of community among youth.

From 1989 to 2002, Karen performed with various theater troupes across Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois, showcasing her talent and passion for performance. Now residing in the Chicagoland area, she has continued her theater involvement through productions with Wheaton Drama, Summer Place Theatre, and Magical Starlight Theatre in Naperville. She eventually transitioned from performer to dedicated audience member and backstage supporter for her daughters, who have been involved in multiple summer productions. Notably, the foreword for Broadway Blessings was penned by Suzy Olsen, a director at North Central College.

Although this book is a Christian devotional, the topics explored within are universal values such as kindness, forgiveness, hope, and redemption, Dix emphasized. By presenting faith within the genre of musical theater, I hope to help others find solace in prayer and highlight the Christian messages we often overlook in secular entertainment.
