MALVERN, Pa., April 16, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has announced the launch of 27 new standard and Trench MOS Barrier Schottky (TMBS) surface-mount rectifiers housed in a compact DFN33A package featuring wettable flanks. These innovative devices are designed to provide space-saving, high-efficiency solutions for a wide range of applications, including commercial, industrial, telecommunications, and automotive sectors. Notably, these rectifiers are the first of their kind in this particular package size, with current ratings reaching up to 6 A for standard devices and an impressive 9 A for TMBS devices.

The newly introduced DFN33A package is part of Vishays Power DFN family and boasts a compact footprint measuring just 3.3 mm by 3.3 mm, coupled with an extremely low height of 0.88 mm. This design significantly enhances the available PCB space, making the Vishay General Semiconductor rectifiers an optimal choice for modern electronic designs. In comparison to traditional packages such as the SMB (DO-214AA) and the eSMP series SMPA (DO-220AA), the DFN33A is 44% and 20% smaller, respectively. Its low profile is also 2.6 times thinner than the SMB package and 7% thinner than the SMPA, making it a standout option in the market.

The advanced design of these rectifiers also emphasizes thermal performance, thanks to its optimized copper mass design and innovative die placement technology. This enables the devices to operate efficiently at higher current ratings, which is critical for various electronic applications. The rectifiers are particularly suited for low voltage, high frequency inverters, DC/DC converters, freewheeling diodes, and protection applications in hot swap circuits. They are ideal for use in baseband antennas and power over Ethernet (PoE) systems for network switches, routers, and optical network equipment.

In terms of operational capabilities, these rectifiers can withstand high temperatures, operating efficiently up to +175 C. Their design also features a remarkably low forward voltage drop and minimal leakage current, enhancing overall design efficiency. Additionally, the wettable flanks of the DFN33A package allow for streamlined automatic optical inspection (AOI), effectively eliminating the need for X-ray inspections during manufacturing.

These rectifiers are engineered for automated placement, and they come with an MSL moisture sensitivity level of 1, per the J-STD-020 standard, with a maximum peak soldering temperature of 260 C. Furthermore, they are compliant with RoHS regulations and are halogen-free. The matte tin-plated leads of the devices also meet the JESD 201 class 2 whisker test, ensuring durability and reliability in various environments.

Vishay has provided a detailed device specification table that includes various part numbers, voltage ratings, and performance characteristics for interested customers. Some key specifications include:

  • SE40N3D: Standard, 200 V, 4 A, VF at IF 0.84 V, 70 A, TJ max +175 C
  • V5N3103: TMBS, 100 V, 5 A, VF at IF 0.43 V, 100 A, TJ max +150 C

Samples and production quantities of the new rectifiers are readily available, with lead times of approximately eight weeks. Vishay Intertechnology is recognized for manufacturing one of the world's largest portfolios of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components, which are integral to innovative designs across a variety of markets including automotive, industrial, computing, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical sectors.
