A man has been told to pay his former friend £2,500 after he beat him bloody and caused more than £1,000 worth of dental damage. Gavin Teague, 45, assaulted his long-term mate at his home in Truro. Teague, of no fixed abode but of the Truro area, caused "significant injury" to the victim who had to pay out hundreds of pounds in dental treatment which is still ongoing. Just one of the bills alone was more than £1,000. He appeared at Truro Crown Court for sentencing today (Thursday, April 16) having pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. It related to events which occurred on January 5, 2024, in the Pendeen Road area of Truro where Teague was kindly offered a place to stay with the victim, a long-term friend of around 27 years. The court was told that he assaulted the male, resulting in "lots of blood" and significant injuries. Teague had been out drinking throughout the evening with his victim concerned about his friend and checking in on him. He decided to stay at home and wait for him when the defendant returned home at around midnight. Want the latest Cornwall breaking news and top stories first? His victim told him to give himself "more credit" and from there Teague launched into an assault and began punching his victim in the face. The victim described them as the "hardest punches" he'd felt in his life and as them having caused "quite a lot of blood". He was taken to hospital and it was found he had multiple wounds and bruising to the head. He underwent significant dental work and further work is still required. The court heard how the relationship between the two was now completely over following the events. Teague was sentenced to eight months suspended for two years. He is also subject to a restraining order and must pay £2,500 compensation to his victim and complete a mental health treatment requirement.
