During the highly anticipated Google Cloud Next 2025 event, Honor, the renowned Chinese smartphone manufacturer, unveiled plans for a closer partnership with Google Cloud, which aims to revolutionize the way consumers interact with technology.

One of the most exciting aspects of this collaboration is the promise of several co-developed features that are set to debut in May 2025. These innovations will leverage cutting-edge technologies such as Veo for video generation and Gemini for advanced office tools, aiming to enhance productivity for users of Honor devices.

In addition to these new features, Honor took the opportunity to reiterate some of its previously launched AI functionalities, particularly highlighting AI Eraser and AI Outpainting, which are part of the Honor 400 Lite series rolled out in Europe earlier this month.

At this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, Honor introduced its ambitious Honor Alpha Plana strategic initiative focused on developing human-centric artificial intelligence (AI) and laying the groundwork for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). This plan signals the company's commitment to creating an AI ecosystem that enhances user experience while opening new horizons for technological capabilities.

In a press release, Honor emphasized the importance of its collaboration with Google Cloud, indicating that it would enable the development of both on-device and cloud-based AI features. Eric Fang, Senior Director of Product Planning at Honor, shared insights into what consumers can expect from the upcoming products slated for release in May 2025. Fang mentioned that these devices would harness Google's advanced Veo technology to deliver impressive motion graphics and enhanced realism in generated content. Furthermore, he hinted at forthcoming 'advanced office tools' designed to assist busy professionals in managing their daily tasks more efficiently.

One of the standout features highlighted was AI Outpainting, which redefines the post-processing capabilities of photos. Utilizing Google's Imagen software, this innovative tool allows users to expand photos up to twice their original size. Accompanying this feature is the AiMAGE Suite, which offers users the ability to reframe and rotate images after capturing them. Fang noted that the goal of this tool is to alleviate users' concerns over achieving perfect framing during photography, pointing out that the optimized generative fill ensures that expanded images blend seamlessly, even in complex environments like urban landscapes or intricate architectural designs.

Additionally, Honor spotlighted another noteworthy AI feature, AI Eraser, which has garnered familiarity among users of Googles Pixel devices. This function adeptly removes unwanted elements from photos, using on-device AI technology to realistically fill in the gaps with contextually appropriate content. Together with AI Upscale, these features are part of Honor's broader mission to 'democratize' AI technology, making it accessible even to users of mid-range devices.

Earlier this year, at MWC 2025, Honor laid out its vision for an AI-driven future with the introduction of its Alpha Plan. This three-step strategy is centered around the creation of smarter smartphones, as well as developing an AI ecosystem and AGI that seeks to expand human potential and innovate civilization as a whole.

In conjunction with its partnership with Google Cloud and Qualcomm Technologies, Honor aims to introduce features that will allow users to reserve restaurant tables and access other conveniences through third-party integrations. Moreover, the company announced that its advanced DeepFake Detection software would be deployed across flagship models and foldable devices in international markets, highlighting its commitment to security and responsible AI usage.
