Tonight on 'Closer Look': Controversy over a new commercial from the home improvement company RONA, which features a deformed donkey drawing attention to 'half-assed' construction jobs The home improvement company RONA has released a cheeky new ad campaign poking fun at "half-assed" construction jobs. The commercial features a sad-looking donkey that's missing the back half of its body. “Whoa, who half-assed this framing?” one contractor asks. “No one likes a half ass," replies another. The ad caught the attention of the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada in Puslinch, Ont., which insists the commercial is hurtful to animals and promotes negative stereotypes. "[It] is a disappointing example of how language can be used to demean rather than uplift," the sanctuary wrote on its Facebook page. "Donkeys that are gentle, intelligent, and hardworking animals deserve better than to have their name turned into an insult. This ad not only misrepresents these animals but also reinforces harmful stereotypes, including the mockery of disabilities."
