In the recently released Episode 2, we witness Koichi updating his vigilante costume and taking on the role of a student under the guidance of the formidable Knuckleduster. This series runs parallel to the beloved My Hero Academia, setting the stage for Koichis struggles and character development before introducing his mentor and purpose.

At first glance, both Koichi and Deku appear as bright-eyed aspirants, dreaming of becoming heroes like their idol, All-Might. However, their paths diverge significantly. While Deku has the privilege of attending a prestigious school to learn the skills needed to become a professional hero, Koichi starts as an unnoticed individual in a world littered with superhuman abilities. Both characters begin their journeys from humble beginnings, but whereas Deku is catapulted into the spotlight due to his connection with All-Might, Koichi remains rooted in an everyday existence.

As both characters seek mentorship, their experiences diverge based on their chosen heroes. Vigilantes portrays a grittier narrative than the mainline series, exposing the more sinister underbelly of the hero world. Although the main series includes dark themes and moments, it primarily maintains a bright and colorful atmosphere filled with hope and eccentric characters. In stark contrast, Knuckleduster embodies a darker aesthetic, juxtaposed against Koichi, who symbolizes the flickering light amidst the shadows of the vigilante underworld.

In this sense, Crawler and Knuckleduster can be seen as the reverse versions of Deku and All-Might. While both series run parallel in their overarching narratives, they branch out in pivotal ways. Deku learns from the optimistic and heroic All-Might, who helps him unlock his powers and gain admission to UA High. Koichi, however, seeks wisdom from Knuckleduster, who is depicted as a serious-minded hero draped in black. If All-Might serves as a Superman equivalent within this universe, Knuckleduster takes on the role of the Batmana character who operates in the shadows without any powers.

The relationship between Koichi and Knuckleduster presents a stark contrast to that of Deku and All-Might. Deku starts as a quirkless teenager, trained by All-Might to inherit his One For All abilities. In contrast, Koichi possesses a quirk, but Knuckleduster lacks one entirely. This unique dynamic emphasizes Knuckleduster's role as a mentor; despite not having superpowers, his extensive experience and combat skills enable him to stand firm against professional heroes, including notable figures like Eraser Head. Conversely, Koichi enters the realm of superheroes as a novice, with little experience in harnessing his quirk for offensive measures.

Koichi's quirk allows him to glide effortlessly over flat surfaces, providing him with a means to evade capture or conceal himself when necessary. With Knuckledusters guidance, Koichi is expected to refine his skills and evolve into a more formidable fighter, equipping himself with techniques to engage villains lurking in the shadows. His rapid transition into the world of heroism is symbolized by his newly revamped costume, a variant of the iconic All-Might hoodie he frequently wears. This new attire features enhanced gloves and boots designed for increased protection as he learns the art of combat. The vibrant hues of his hoodie provide a striking contrast to Knuckledusters dark ensemble. In essence, Koichi has taken on a role reminiscent of Robin, acting as the sidekick to Knuckledusters Batman.
