Wednesdays Wordle Challenge: A Fantasy Adventure and Puzzle Insights

Are you ready to tackle todays Wordle? If youve been searching for hints, clues, and the ultimate answer for Wednesdays Wordle, look no further! Yesterday marked another thrilling Wordle Wednesday, where I presented yet another engaging brain-teaser for all you puzzle enthusiasts eager to test your skills. This time, the puzzle takes on a fantasy theme, diving into a world filled with knights, rangers, wizards, and clerics battling against orc hordes.
In this scenario, our four heroes enter an orc-infested valley for an intense six-hour challenge, competing to see who can slay the most orcs. Each character possesses unique strengths and faces distinct challenges that affect their performance in the field. Your task is to apply logical reasoning and mathematical skills to determine how many orcs each hero manages to slay and rank them from the highest to the lowest based on their success.
Heres a breakdown of our formidable heroes:
- The Knight
- The Ranger
- The Wizard
- The Cleric
It's important to note that each character has a specific rate of orc slaying that can be influenced by various complications. For instance, while the Ranger has the capacity to slay 8 orcs per hour, he spends 12 minutes each hour restringing his bow, which reduces his effectiveness significantly. Additionally, remember that its impossible to slay a fraction of an orc, meaning any totals must be rounded down. As a reminder, simply wounding an orc does not contribute to the final tally.
Your mission is clear: calculate the total number of orcs slain by each hero and then rank them from most to least successful. Here are the final counts:
- Knight: 52 orcs slain
- Wizard: 50 orcs slain
- Ranger: 38 orcs slain
- Cleric: 31 orcs slain
As a bonus challenge, consider this question: who would have triumphed in this contest if a troll had appeared in the fourth hour instead of the second? This twist could change the dynamics of the battle entirely!
Now, lets shift gears to solving todays Wordle. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, heres a hint: todays word is in the past tense and serves as the past participle of a term that is also the title of a well-known Stephen King novel. Additionally, the word contains a double letter.
Ready for some spoilers? Heres how my Wordle attempt went:
I started with the word CLIME, but it turned out to be a disappointing opening, resulting in all grey boxesjust like the Wordle Bot, leaving me with a staggering 492 remaining possibilities. Then, I opted for BARON, which dramatically reduced the options to just 9. Finally, I took a shot with STOOP, thinking I had it, but it left me with only one viable solution: STOOD. It seems the cheese stood alone!
Todays Wordle Bot and I reached a tie, both scoring zero points for todays four-guess round, which leaves our standings at Erik: 5 points and Wordle Bot: 12 points.
The word stood is not only the past tense but also the past participle of stand. This term traces its origins back to Old English std, which is the past tense form of standan (meaning to stand), derived from Proto-Germanic st and ultimately from Proto-Indo-European steh-, meaning to stand, place, or be firm.
