Chiefs GM Brett Veach confirms suspicion about which position group he believes is the best in 2025 NFL Draft

The Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of question marks at the running back position beyond the 2025 season. Starter Isiah Pacheco is entering the final year of his contract, and Kareem Hunt and Elijah Mitchell are both playing on one-year deals this season. While speaking to the media on Thursday, general manager Brett Veach was asked about his opinion on the RBs of the 2025 NFL Draft, and like many experts, Veach said he believes it is the deepest position in this year's class. "The running back class is probably the deepest [group] in the draft," Veach said. "I think you can get a really good player from rounds one through five. I feel good about the running back stack. I think it's probably a consensus throughout the draft community that there's a ton of running backs. I think that there'll be a good chance that one of these picks ends up being one of those players, just because there's so many of them, and they're all really good. The discrepancies between the running back you have and fourth or fifth [round] is really close, or fourth and third [round] is really close. So, I think it's a good likelihood that one of those players ends up on our roster, and hopefully they're a dynamic [kick] returner as well." Based off those comments, it seems fairly certain that Kansas City will select a RB with one its first five picks. If this year's RB class is as good as most believe it is, it would be a shame if the Chiefs missed out on one, especially considering the future uncertainty they have at the position. The Chiefs have done a great job throughout free agency of filling roster holes, so they could justifiably draft a RB with any of their picks, including in the first round. One of our recent 7-round mock drafts featured them taking Ohio State's Quinshon Judkins in the second round at No. 63 overall. Whoever K.C. takes, hopefully they will have the upside to play a significant role in 2026.
