Murder arrest as man dies after car 'deliberately driven at him' A 47-year-old man was seriously injured when a car hit him and later died of his injuries Police in Stonyhurst Road in Woolton today A man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was "deliberately driven at" in a Woolton street. At around 11.45pm on Friday, a 47-year-old man was seriously injured on Stonyhurst Road. Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital, but died from his injuries. A 41-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody to be questioned. Officers remain at the scene to carry out witness and CCTV inquiries and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: “Our investigation into this incident is in its very early stages, but it does appear the car was deliberately driven at the man. Article continues below Police in Woolton today “People who live on the road came to his aid but despite their best efforts and those of paramedics, he sadly passed away in hospital. Our thoughts remain with his family at this tragic time and specially trained officers are supporting them. “We have launched an investigation into what happened and we have already arrested a suspect and seized the car we believe was involved. “Our officers are continuing to carry out inquiries at the scene and studying CCTV footage to establish the full circumstances. “I appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident and any residents living locally who might have CCTV showing the incident, to please get in touch. Every piece of information is vitally important to our investigation and could help us establish what happened so we can provide answers for his family.” Local people living in Stonyhurst Road told the ECHO that there was a house party happening in the street last night before the incident occurred. Article continues below One neighbour said they later heard what sounded like a car brakes screeching, causing them to 'jump out of bed' and look out of the window. They then saw a large commotion, with lots of people gathering as police arrived. Another neighbour added: "‘I went to bed at 11pm, and then a bit later I heard shouting. It wasn’t just a general argument, it was severe, it was really aggressive. Later I saw people standing in the road."
