Following the momentum generated by the 'Hands off' protest on April 5, the second phase of an extensive anti-Trump rally is set to unfold today across all 50 states. Organizers expect over 400 rallies to take place as part of this mass movement, orchestrated by the group known as 50501, which symbolizes the call for '50 protests in 50 states and one movement.'

The inaugural phase of this protest series occurred on April 5, garnering a response that exceeded the expectations of its organizers. Since President Donald Trumps inauguration on January 20, 2025, numerous movements have emerged to challenge his administrations policies and actions, including the notable 'No Kings Day' protest on February 17.

With the anticipation of an even larger turnout today, the developers of the 50501 movement have set an ambitious target of mobilizing 3.5 percent of the U.S. population, equating to over 11 million participants. This number is viewed as crucial for what the movement considers 'sustained resistance' necessary for effecting meaningful change.

The April 19 demonstrations are explicitly framed not only as protests but also as awareness-raising events that highlight various issues that the organizers believe are being mishandled by the Trump administration. Hunter Dunn, the national press coordinator for 50501, has emphasized that this event is designed as a 'National Day of Action,' or a 'National Day of Community Action,' rather than merely a traditional protest.

Dunn explained the intent of the rallies, stating, 'There are plenty of demonstrations happening around the country as part of the day of action, but the primary focus of the day of action is speaking to the needs of your community.' This community-centric approach aims to address local issues, reflecting the diverse concerns of participants across the nation.

For instance, in Southern California, the day's activities might include mutual aid drives to assist individuals still affected by recent devastating wildfires. Conversely, in New York City, activists may stage demonstrations against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement's controversial mass deportation strategies. The overarching goal of the day is to create a positive impact within communities, rather than merely focusing on attendance figures.
