Currawood earns potential crack at Tetrarch Stakes as Paddy Twomey's hot streak continues

Paddy Twomey has sent out four winners, two seconds and a third from his last seven runners after Currawood continued the trainer's hot streak with a commanding success in the median auction race over a mile. It looked a tasty race on paper with the 94-rated Rowdy Yeats going off even-money favourite to follow up his stylish comeback victory at Naas, but he couldn't live with Currawood from the two-furlong pole as the 9-4 shot skipped five and a half lengths clear under Billy Lee. Next stop for Currawood could be the Tetrarch Stakes at the Curragh in a couple of weeks. The Acclamation colt had the form as on the second of his three starts last season he chased home Derby favourite The Lion In Winter in a Curragh maiden. Twomey's other runner on the card was Arouet in the 1m2½f maiden with the 12-1 newcomer taking second behind the Johnny Murtagh-trained Nautical Force , who justified 100-30 favouritism under Ben Coen. Lee double Lee landed a double when guiding 9-2 chance Apercu to victory in the valuable 1m2½f handicap for Andy Oliver. Willie Mullins, who is fighting jumps battles either side of the Irish Sea, went close to having a Flat winner, but the Wathnan Racing-owned 11-4 favourite Lope De Lilas couldn't hold Apercu's late surge after leading inside the final furlong.
