Scientists say a new colour has just been discovered

A new colour has been discovered, which has only been seen by five people, scientists have claimed. The discovery was made following an experiment where US researchers had laser pulses fired into their eyes, which led them to seeing the blue-green colour. A new colour has been discovered, which has only been seen by five people, scientists have claimed. Prof Ren Ng was one of the five people taking part in the study and told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that the colour was ‘more saturated’ than anything seen in the real world. ‘Let’s say you go around your whole life and you see only pink, baby pink, pastel pink,’ he explained, ‘And then one day you go to the office and someone’s wearing a shirt and it’s the most intense baby pink you’ve ever seen. Prof Ren Ng was one of the five people taking part in the study and told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that the new colour was ‘more saturated’ than anything seen in the real world. The research paper detailed how the participants looked into a device consisting of mirrors, lasers and optical devices. The laser only stimulated one of the three cone cells in the eye, the M cone. The paper said this means it ‘would send a colour signal to the brain that never occurs in natural vision.’ Professor Ng explained that while the colour is ‘certainly very technically difficult’ to see, the team are currently researching what it could mean for colour blind people.
