Nebraska punter Jack McCallister enters the transfer portal

Nebraska’s likely starting punter next season entered the transfer portal Wednesday in a surprise move that leaves the Huskers looking for a new specialist. Jack McCallister – who transferred from Washington in December with one year of eligibility remaining – announced his decision on social media while thanking the NU coaching staff for the opportunity. The move came about because of a “change of circumstances,” he wrote. Nebraska lists one other punter on its roster in Kamdyn Koch, a redshirt freshman who was the No. 2 punter last season behind senior veteran Brian Buschini but didn’t see any game action. The Huskers hired a new special teams coordinator in February in Mike Ekeler. The team is in the home stretch of its spring practices, with the spring event set for April 26. The transfer portal opened Wednesday and runs through April 25. McCallister was a walk-on with the Huskies and worked his way into a starting job. The native of Edmonds, Washington, in December said Nebraska was his only visit – an “easy choice,” he told The World-Herald then. “We started talking and finding out our interests were aligned,” McCallister said at the time. “I came out and liked everything I saw so I decided this would be the best opportunity for me.” Now he and the Huskers are looking for a new match.
