Los Angeles Chargers Double Down On Best Player In The Draft

The Los Angeles Chargers concluded their previous season with a lopsided playoff loss to the Houston Texans. While that result marked a disappointing end to Jim Harbaugh’s debut season as head coach, it did not prompt any rash decisions in free agency. Instead, the Chargers strategically addressed roster needs by acquiring players such as guard Mekhi Becton, running back Najee Harris, wide receiver Mike Williams, and cornerback Donte Jackson. They also retained key players like edge rusher Khalil Mack, center Bradley Bozeman, and cornerback Elijah Molden. Los Angeles Chargers GM Feels No Pressure General Manager Joe Hortiz expressed satisfaction with the team’s offseason moves at a recent press conference, stating that they have positioned the team to approach the upcoming draft with flexibility. “You let the board come to you,” Hortiz said, via the team’s website. “You don’t feel the pressure, so to speak, that, ‘Oh we got to address this player, we have to take this position.’ I just don’t feel that way because of the way we have spread ourselves out in free agency and adding to the roster and really completing the roster. I think that’s the goal. You want to put yourself in a position to be go to draft day and say, ‘We can literally let the board come to us. We can take the best player.’” With 10 draft picks at their disposal, the Chargers possess not only the ability to select the best available players but also the flexibility to maneuver within the draft to secure targeted prospects.
