Social media footage reveals a diver struggling in the water off Hadera, north-west Israel, as onlookers watch in horror. According to Magen David Adom, emergency services are conducting a search, and police have closed the beach until further notice. ‌ Further clips show the shark swimming near paddlers in shallow water, causing some people to rush to shore while others remained to observe the predator. Shortly after, a shark was seen attacking a swimmer. The swimmer could be seen thrashing around as the surrounding water turned red, presumably with his blood. Israeli reports also suggest the shark attacked a rescue diver searching for the man. Article continues below The Coastal Department of Hadera municipality stated it is conducting searches by jet ski to locate the swimmer, reports the Mirror. Additional footage on social media shows helicopters scanning the waters for the missing man. The incident occurred in a section of the beach where swimming was prohibited. ‌ Dusky and sandbar sharks, which are common in the area from November to May, are not typically known to attack humans. However, in recent days, sharks have been drawn to the shores of Hadera and Beit Yannai by dead fish thrown into the sea.
