‘We prayed for 2 months for the will of God to be done’

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, has said that he wishes God will receive the deceased Pope Francis into his bosom as Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He said the Catholic Church had been praying for over two months for the late pontiff after they heard about his ailment. He added that now that he is dead, they wish him a peaceful rest. “We’ve been praying for almost two months for the will of God to be done. Our holy father has been ill since February 14, when he was hospitalisied and we have been following for updates from the doctors,” he said. Archbishop Palmer-Buckle added that regardless, it has not come as a great surprise to them, the death of Pope Francis. He added that he and other Catholics are thankful to God for the life the late pontiff lived. Earlier, it was reported that Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88, at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. Known as Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, he was elected to lead the Catholic Church in March 2013 after Pope Benedict XVI stepped down.
