Sinn Féin's Antoin Watters wants Louth County Council to work with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to tackle the problem. He has highlighted how one individual was recently challenged and prevented from disposing of them south of the border, but it appears they were dumped in the South Armagh area the following day. "A case where someone was caught dumping tyres in the North Louth area. They ended up taking the tyres back and it looks like, if you put it all together, the following day they were dumped in Slieve Gullion. So what I was trying to highlight was there's the North/South element where they could be dumping in North Louth one day, it could be in Cooley, it could be in the Turf Mountain, it could be out the Armagh Road, which is quite bad at the minute as well. Or on the other hand, I'd be talking to colleagues of mine in the north who see it in Slieve Gullion, maybe around rural areas of Mullabawn and these areas So I'm asking the council to maybe look through the strategic alliance with Louth County Council, Newry, Mourne and Down - the new CCTV legislation that's coming in and been put in place, that maybe the two litter wardens in both jurisdictions come together again, maybe for a joint operation or joint patrols to try and see if these perpetrators can be caught. Because they are straddling both sides of the border and unfortunately it's very hard to police that if they're going in the North today and in the South tomorrow, it's very difficult. So we need to work together to try and stop it and hopefully the CCTV, which is long awaited, it's due imminently so hopefully that'll be in place too to help catch these perpetrators."
