Tragedy as man, 23, found dead in Rochdale Canal after leaving home to go to gym It is thought Guy Battersby suffered a seizure as he cycled to the gym and went into Rochdale Canal in Miles Platting Guy Battersby (Image: Megan Battersby ) Tributes have been paid to a 23-year-old Manchester City fan who died after cycling into a canal following a suspected seizure. Guy Battersby's body was found in Rochdale Canal in Miles Platting on Good Friday. Guy, from Failsworth, was a night manager for Lidl supermarket in Manchester city centre. His distraught family have joined friends in setting off blue balloons and flares near the scene of the tragedy on Monday. Superfit Guy, originally from Moston, had been in training to take part in next year's London Marathon but he suffered from epilepsy, said his sister Megan who described him as 'the best ever'. Speaking on behalf of the family, Megan, 21, told the Manchester Evening News: "He was obsessed with and going to the gym. He absolutely loved Manchester City growing up. He was quiet but once you got to know him and understand him, he was the nicest person ever and would doing anything for anybody. That's what everybody has said about him." It is thought he went into the water near Varley Street as he cycled to the gym on Thursday evening. Guy's friend Shonagh Priestly wrote: "Rest in peace Guy I still can’t believe what’s happened and I’m sending all my love to your family… Some of my favourite memories include you and them from growing up and I'll cherish the friendship we had my ginga twin. You have been taken way too soon. All my love always, Shonagh." I will never forget our memories and the friendship we shared. You were one of a kind and I'm so lucky I got to meet you in this life! God takes the best and he certainly has, may you rest in peace until we meet again. I'll miss your infectious laughter. Love you always." Emergency services, including police and firefighters, were called to the scene near Varley Street, Miles Platting, at approximately 10.30am on April 18 after receiving reports of a person in the canal. Police confirmed that a man was found dead at the location. While there are currently no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, investigations are ongoing. "Emergency services attended and a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
