In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell and her husband, Fred Mitchell, were victims of a brutal stabbing early Monday morning. While Commissioner Mitchell is currently recovering in the hospital, the attack sadly claimed the life of her husband. Their grandson, Mitchell Blake Reinacher, aged 23, has been arrested and is facing serious charges, including murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Lewisville Police Department is actively investigating this double stabbing, which occurred in the couple's home. Officers were dispatched to the residence located in the 1000 block of Springwood Drive shortly before 4 a.m. following reports of an assault. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered both Bobbie and Fred Mitchell had sustained multiple stab wounds.

According to police reports, the suspect, who remains identified as Mitchell Reinacher, was still present when the authorities arrived and was taken into custody without incident. Both victims were transported to a local hospital; Commissioner Mitchell underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, while her husband tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after 5 a.m.

In a heartfelt statement released by the Mitchell family, they expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received. Our wonderful mother, Bobbie J. Mitchell, is expected to recover from the tragic events that occurred this morning. We are very thankful for the outreach everyone has extended to us on behalf of our family. Our mother offers her blessings to all who have reached out. We will provide updates on a later date for the funeral service for our beloved father, Fred Mitchell, the family said.

Lewisville Police Chief Brook Rollins confirmed that Reinacher lived with his grandparents at their home. Although someone inside the residence initiated the 911 call, it remains unclear who that individual was, and the investigation is ongoing. The 911 dispatcher could hear what was described as a struggle happening in the background. Police arrived on the scene at approximately 3:58 a.m., immediately hearing screams emanating from inside the home.

Upon his arrest, Reinacher was reported to be cooperative with the police. It is believed he used a serrated kitchen knife to carry out the attack, although the motive behind this shocking incident is still unknown. He has been booked into the Lewisville city jail and subsequently transported to the Denton County Jail, where he faces a combined bond of $600,000.

The community's response has been one of shock and deep sorrow. This is a deeply emotional moment for our city, the Lewisville Police Department stated. The Mayor and Chief will share official remarks regarding the investigation, the impact on our community, and the steps being taken moving forward.

Denton County Judge Andy Eads took to social media to express his condolences, stating, My dear friend, colleague, and mentor Precinct 3 Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell has suffered a huge tragedy this morning. I ask that you keep her and her family in your prayers as she recovers. Her beloved husband, Fred Mitchell, a longtime friend, will be greatly missed.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also released a statement, expressing his condolences: Cecilia and I are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Commissioner Bobbie Mitchells husband, Fred Mitchell, after they were brutally attacked in their home this morning. I thank the Lewisville Police Department and other first responders for their quick response and for rushing Commissioner Mitchell to the hospital.

A vigil is scheduled for Monday night at Westside Baptist Church in Lewisville at 7 p.m., inviting the public to come together in support of the Mitchell family during this difficult time.

Bobbie Mitchell has a long-standing history of public service within the community. Currently serving on the Denton County Commissioners Court for Precinct 3, which encompasses the Lewisville area, she is also recognized as the first Black mayor of Lewisville, having been elected in 1993. After resigning from the mayoral position in January 2000 to take on a county role, she has been an influential figure in local politics. Bobbie has resided in Lewisville since 1971, alongside her husband Fred, and together they have two children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
