Follow the latest transfer news and more with our LFC newsletter Liverpool could have a new-look defence by the time next season gets underway. The Reds have just a couple of months to wait before the summer transfer window opens, with plenty of players already being linked with moves to Anfield. Arne Slot is on the cusp of winning the Premier League title in his first season as Liverpool's head coach. After signing just one player last summer, it could be a different story for Slot and the Reds when the upcoming transfer window opens. A host of players have been credited as potential targets for Liverpool already, particularly in the defence. There will be more certainty over what is to come for the Reds going into next season after Virgil van Dijk signed a new two-year contract last week. It's at centre-back where one of the latest rumours concerning Liverpool has emerged, too. Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen is continuing to be linked with a move to Anfield, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old over the ladt few weeks. Huijsen is thought to have a £50million release clause in his contract this summer, just a year after signing for Bournemouth from Juventus last July. The Cherries are reported to have paid around £12million to sign the centre-back almost a year ago, and could be set to make an impressive profit if the release clause is activated. If Liverpool do go on to sign Huijsen, it would certainly strengthen the central defensive options at the club. (Image: Photo by Robin Jones - AFC Bournemouth/AFC Bournemouth via Getty Images) Along with Van Dijk, Huijsen would compete with Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez at the heart of the defence, plus any other signings that are made for the position. It's not just centre-back where there are question marks around the Liverpool defence. Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are the current left-back options in the squad, with Huijsen's Bournemouth teammate Milos Kerkez on the shortlist of possible targets going into the summer. At right-back, there continues to be uncertainty around Trent Alexander-Arnold's future at Anfield. The Liverpool vice-captain's contract expires at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen if he will sign an extension amid interest from Real Madrid. Conor Bradley has established himself as a more than capable deputy to Alexander-Arnold at right-back over the last 18 months. If Alexander-Arnold does depart, though, it would leave Liverpool needing to sign either a ready-made replacement or someone to compete with Bradley for the spot in the team. Dream Liverpool defence next season: Bradley, Van Dijk, Huijsen, Kerkez.
