Separately, after four men have been released without charge as part of an ongoing Garda Operation GARDA PROBE Eight teens arrested as ‘stolen’ cars stopped using stinger device and seized amid garda op in two counties EIGHT teens have been arrested following a "managed containment operation" in Kilkenny and Waterford yesterday. Gardai on patrol observed two "stolen" cars engaged in "dangerous driving" shortly before 6pm on Monday, April 21. Both offending vehicles were reported to have been subject to "unauthorised taking" in recent days. A stinger device was deployed and the cars were brought to a stop on the N25 at Grannagh roundabout near Waterford city. One of the cars collided with a separate vehicle during the course of the operations. No injuries were reported. Eight boys were arrested and detained at garda stations in the eastern region of the country under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. But they were later released without charge pending further investigation. Gardai confirmed investigations into the incident are ongoing. A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí arrested eight males following a managed containment operation in the Eastern Region on Monday, 21st April 2025. "Shortly before 6:00pm, Gardaí on patrol observed two vehicles engaged in dangerous driving in the Kilkenny area. "Both offending vehicles were reported to have been subject to unauthorised taking in recent days, under ongoing Garda investigations. "A managed containment operation was put in place during which a stinger device was deployed and the cars were brought to a halt on the N25 at Grannagh Roundabout." No injuries were reported. "Eight male juveniles were subsequently arrested and detained at Garda stations in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. "All eight were released without charge pending further investigation and files are being prepared for the Garda Youth Diversion Office. "Investigations are ongoing." ONGOING GARDA OPERATION Separately, four men have been released without charge as part of an ongoing Garda Operation. The crackdown is centered on targeting the supply of controlled substances into prisons in the west Dublin area. Gardai from Ronanstown Garda Station became aware of an attempt to carry out a drone delivery to a prison yesterday on Sunday April 20. Following this attempt Gardai obtained a search warrant and carried out a search of a residential property in west Dublin. During the search yesterday a drone and a number of electronic devices were recovered. And a vehicle was also seized after Gardai conducted follow up searches. As part of the investigation four men aged in their late teens, 20s, 30s and 40s were arrested. They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in Garda stations across Dublin but were later released without charge. A file is set to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions while Gardai continue their investigations.
