'30 years went by in the blink of an eye' Joanna Donnelly in surprise exit from weather forecast

Rain, hail, or shine, Joanna Donnelly always appeared on our TVs to give us the latest weather update after the news, but now we will have to get used to seeing a new face as the meteorologist has left the show. Joanna's departure marks the end of an era for the mum-of-three, who made a name for herself off the back of her weather woman gig at RTÉ. She took to social media to reveal the sad news to her fans from home with a glass of wine in hand, explaining she 'didn't want to leave without saying goodbye' ' I've been on the weather forecast for nearly 10 years, I think, at this stage between training and being operational, and I've had a great time. It's been a great experience,' she said. She went on to reveal that she had given three decades of her life to Met Éireann, saying that the thirty years had 'just gone by in the blink of an eye.' 'I started Met Éireann in August 1995 in the middle of the glorious heat wave and it's flown by it,' she said. Joanna sat down with her husband Harm to reflect on the years she dedicated to working at the organisation. 'I broke it down with my husband, the years that I spent working before I was a forecaster, and then as an early forecaster, as a novice forecaster with my small children, and then my years struggling with infertility, and then I went on TV.' While she didn't reveal the actual reason behind her departure, the 54-year-old assured her followers that it has nothing to do with her work ethic. 'I do want to say my leaving has nothing to do with my work product. I've always given the very best I could possibly give to the weather forecast. So I hope anybody who's wondering what happened knows it wasn't the forecast.' She explained that the role opened the door for her to have some memorable experiences. 'I've gotten so much out of it, not least Dancing With the Stars, which I really, really enjoyed.' Joanna has also published two books during her time appearing on the national broadcaster. In terms of future plans, Joanna is leaving herself open to new opportunities coming her way. ' Now what? I don't know. We'll see. We'll see what happens next. Chapter three,' she said.
