NRL 2025, Dolphins, Rabbitohs, round 17, Suncorp Stadium

The Round 17 clash between the Dolphins and Rabbitohs will be played at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday June 28 as part of a unique Australian sporting first. Originally set down for Suncorp Stadium in Round 1, the match was relocated to Sydney because of approaching weather event Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Now the Dolphins and Broncos will play in separate NRL events at the same ground on the one day with the Dolphins receiving permission to play the Rabbitohs at the newly-scheduled time of 7.50pm, following the Broncos-Warriors game that kicks off at 3.00pm. Fans will need tickets for both games if they wish to attend the two events, with Suncorp Stadium to be emptied and prepared at the conclusion of the Broncos-Warriors game. A new crowd will then enter the stadium for the Dolphins-Rabbitohs match, with the kick-off put back 20 minutes to allow for fan movement out of and back into the stadium. Stadium colours, sponsor assets and dressing room signage will all be changed in that time, and Dolphins’ members that have designated tickets to the match can then assume their usual seating positions. “We want to thank the NRL, Suncorp Stadium, host broadcaster Fox League and the Rabbitohs and Broncos for having the vision to make this unique set of circumstances into a history-making reality,” said Dolphins CEO Terry Reader. “We don’t believe a major stadium in Australia has ever been turned around in the one day for two events of this size before. “It is going to turn the Caxton Street precinct into a carnival for the entire day where fans can enjoy either event, or go the whole way and purchase tickets to both.” Suncorp Stadium general manager Alan Graham said the stadium was up for the task of servicing two separate events in one day. “Here at Suncorp Stadium we are always ready to take on unique challenges,” said Graham. “Magic Round, floods and world title fights are just a few examples. We’ve got the team and the appetite to take on the next big one by turning the venue around for these back-to-back blockbusters." Dolphins’ members and current ticket holders to the game will be contacted by the club regarding entry to the match in the following days.
