More info If Manchester United are to succeed under Ruben Amorim next season, they have to give him the players required to improve the current squad. The Manchester Evening News understands that United are planning to sign a new striker and goalkeeper this summer. Other positions also need attention after United's worst-ever Premier League finish has left Amorim with a clear idea of what is necessary. How much United can spend is determined by whether or not the club wins the Europa League, subsequently qualifying for the Champions League. Whatever happens, smart business will be needed in a more disciplined manner after some questionable pieces of business. The priority, it seems, when scanning the rumour mill, when it comes to United's preferred number one target, is at centre-forward. After Amorim watched another blank in the Premier League at the weekend against Wolves, the Portuguese is now pushing for a new-look attack. Matheus Cunha's move to Old Trafford is one that seems to be gathering pace, with United reportedly in pole position to sign the Brazilian. His £62.5million release clause means United may look at bargaining with Wolves to lower the initial fee. On Tuesday, reports emerged suggesting that personal terms had been agreed with Victor Osimhen's entourage. The striker is currently on loan at Galatasaray and will enter the final year of his Napoli contract in the summer. There remains plenty of work left for United to complete both deals, but excitement is growing with supporters over the prospect of having attacking players with decent goalscoring records at the club. Osimhen has scored 30 goals in 35 games for Galatasaray and netted 76 in 133 for Napoli. Cunha has scored 32 in 87 games for Wolves after previously finding the back of the net for Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin. In the previous two seasons, the Brazilian has scored 26 Premier League goals and assisted another 11 - 37 goal contributions in total. Bruno Fernandes, one of United's best players, has scored 18 and assisted 17 - 35 goal contributions - in the same time period. Compare that to the current options in United's attack, and it's grim reading. Alejandro Garnacho has contributed to just 17 goals in the Premier League, and Rasmus Hojlund has managed just 15. Goals have been lacking at Old Trafford for some time. An attacking line-up that consists of Osimhen, Cunha and Fernandes, as per the statistics, will be enough to unlock Amorim's 3-4-3 system in full force next season.
