Lichfield is a city steeped in history and culture. A historic region of Staffordshire where there is a little bit of history around every corner. For our Love Your Neighbourhood feature, we went on a rainy walk around the city to visit all of the major hot spots and shopping venues, asking the question, 'Why is Lichfield a good place to be'. The first thing you notice about Lichfield is the picturesque Lichfield Cathedral, it's the reason that many choose to visit the city for the first time. Even with the rain, the cathedral is a picturesque sight, drawing thousands of visitors to the city regardless of the weather. The magnificent structure attracts visitors from all across the world, with many even taking detours for the sole reason of seeing the historic building. Robin and Tara Gadd, from Bournemouth, visited the cathedral on their way to Scotland, they said: "It's a magnificent building. "We haven't had a chance to go inside yet, but from the outside, it looks incredible. We actually visited Lichfield just to see the cathedral. It's made for a brilliant detour." Walking through the high street, you are surrounded by small independent shops, many of them a regular stop for local shoppers. Louise Hall, owner of Dame Oliver's, a clothing and accessories shop in the area, said: "It's a brilliant place. "We have been here for around 42 years now. The customers are amazing and the views are fantastic. It's really amazing." Another regular stop for many is one of the city's many antique shops, small independent stores that sell amazing vintage goods with a smile. Paul Walton, from Sutton Coldfield, has co-owned the Lichfield Antique Centre for more than 10 years, he said: "Lichfield is brilliant. "We have our usual customers, but a lot of visitors stop in here on their walks around the city. It's a great place." For the residents of Lichfield, they couldn't be happier with the area they call home, saying that it is 'the perfect place to live'. Samantha Royce, 32, of Lichfield, said: "It's really amazing. It's the perfect place to live. "The views are fantastic and the council really look out for the residents. We have plenty of activities going on, and we welcome everyone and anyone. It's just brilliant." So there you have it. Lichfield - the perfect place to visit, even on a rainy day.
