A young man has been shot dead in a Newcastle carpark about 11.40pm on Wednesday. The victim, believed to be 18 years old, was fighting with a group of people in the Bar Beach carpark on Memorial Dr at Newcastle, when a car pulled up. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today “A white SUV drove up and a man armed with a firearm got out, fired, and left in the vehicle,” NSW Police said. The teenager was found with a gunshot wound in his chest, Sunrise reports. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the young man, but he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified. A crime scene was established and an investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the NSW Police Homicide Squad. A burnt-out car believed by police to be the getaway vehicle was found on Croudace Rd at Tingira Heights, about a 20-minute drive from Bar Beach.
