In a bold move that reflects its commitment to electrification and modern aesthetics, Lexus has officially unveiled the redesigned 2026 ES luxury sedan at the Shanghai Auto Show. This mid-sized sedan, now in its eighth generation, showcases a significant transformation both in styling and technology, offering consumers a choice between an all-electric drivetrain and a traditional hybrid system.

The 2026 ES marks Lexus's second foray into the electric vehicle segment, following the recent update of the RZ earlier this year. The new design incorporates distinct features inspired by the striking LF-ZC concept unveiled at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. Notable design elements include a bolder spindle front fascia, sharp angles, L-shaped daytime running lights, and a gracefully curved rear, all of which contribute to a more dynamic and eye-catching appearance.

At the heart of the ES's redesign is a modified version of Toyotas well-regarded TNGA GA-K platform. This innovative architecture has been engineered with added reinforcements to enhance stability and performance, catering to both hybrid and electric variants of the sedan. The new ES can now accommodate a cutting-edge, lightweight 2.5-liter hybrid system, which boasts increased battery capacity for the 350h model. This model now also offers an all-wheel-drive option, further expanding its appeal to consumers seeking versatility and performance.

For those opting for the all-electric variants, the ES 350e and the AWD 500e, the platform allows for the integration of a substantial EV battery located on the vehicle's floor. Lexus has carefully designed this setup to ensure that passenger comfort remains uncompromised. Impressively, the company estimates that the ES 350e can achieve an impressive range of approximately 300 miles on a single charge when equipped with 19-inch wheels.

Inside the cabin, Lexus has prioritized both technology and luxury. The ES features a state-of-the-art 12.3-inch instrument display alongside a sizable 14-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports seamless integration with popular smartphone platforms like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the system can connect to two smartphones simultaneously via Bluetooth, raising the bar for convenience and connectivity.

The interior design reflects a commitment to eco-friendly luxury, with door panels crafted to resemble bamboo using advanced 3D printing technology.
