The Latest Mock Draft: A Love-Hate Relationship with Predictions
The mock draft is a phenomenon that has existed in the world of professional sports for over 25 years, and yet, I find myself grappling with a deep-seated aversion to it. However, as they say, when in Rome, one must adapt to the local customs.
The entire mock draft process begins immediately after the conclusion of the NFL draft each year, a timing that I have always found quite absurd. Conducting a mock draft prior to the free agency period is, in my opinion, a futile exercise. This is primarily due to the fact that team rosters can change dramatically based on the players that are signed or lost during this crucial off-season period.
In recent years, I've opted to forgo the arduous task of compiling the PFT mock draft myself. Instead, I now rely on a colleague who takes great pleasure in this task and possesses a wealth of connections and insights. This allows them to create a mock draft with a level of accuracy and enthusiasm that I cannot match. In the past, I would often make minor adjustments to the draft, and while sometimes those tweaks would improve the overall outcome, other times they would lead to complete disaster.
The first version of the draft typically arrives in my inbox on a Sunday or Monday. Predictably, there are always a few last-minute changes required before it officially goes live. Once I receive the final draft, I add it to my to-do list, planning to review it at some point before the actual draft takes place. When the time comes, I post the entire mock draft without any revisions, as I believe it's a representation of the current landscape of the league.
Presenting to you now the 2025 edition of our mock draft. I can confidently assert that it may be the worst mock draft of all time. But then again, arent all mock drafts inherently flawed? Here it is our latest attempt at predicting the unpredictable:
