"We poured our heart into that space, but with high operational costs in this economy, it became impossible to sustain both locations..." A Vancouver café known for its Vietnamese coffee drinks and casual snacks has announced the permanent closure of one of its two locations. Hèm 377 shared on social media Thursday, April 24, its second outpost at 1108 Commercial Dr is now shut down. The space was vacated in April 2023 by Palestinian restaurant Tamam To-Go, a mostly take-out operation. Hèm 377 opened up there on The Drive in the fall of 2023, about a year and a half after launching at 5026 Victoria Dr, "where it all began," as they say. Cafe known for specialty beverages, casual bites The cafe beckoned guests to immerse themselves "in the world of Vietnamese coffee" and "embark on a caffeine-filled journey like no other" at the shop. Hèm 377's menu focuses on its signature coffee beverages, including Egg Coffee (Cà phê trứng), Hue Style Coffee (Cà phê muối) made with honey-salted cream, or Pandan Drip (Cà phê lá dứa) which is made with drip coffee and sweetened pandan milk and pandan cream. The café also has a "cloud series" of coffee drinks, specialty lattes like those made with ube, durian, or Biscoff cookies, along with milk teas, flavoured milks, sugarcane juice, and other fresh teas and juices. For food, Hèm 377 offers snack-style eats, like popcorn cups, a sticky rice bowl, and banh mi. Closure due to 'high operational costs' Hèm 377 shares in its closure notice that operators faced challenges, including the option to close. "This wasn’t an easy decision. We poured our heart into that space, but with high operational costs in this economy, it became impossible to sustain both locations while keeping the quality and care we believe in," write the Hèm 377 operator. "We’re truly sorry to those who supported us there — it meant a lot. Every visit, every cup, every kind word will always be remembered," they add. Hèm 377 will continue to operate on Victoria Drive. "We’ll keep building something meaningful, right here with you." 🍽 Find more delicious Metro Vancouver food and drink video stories by following V.I.A.'s Forking Awesome on TikTok and Instagram, and signing up for our Forking Awesome newsletter 📬 delivered fresh to your inbox every Thursday.
