'Death trap' junction where 'selfish' parking is a 'recipe for disaster' "It's pure arrogance from these people, and they need to stop doing it" The "nightmare" junction on Childwall Valley Road People who regularly use a busy south Liverpool junction have described it as a "death trap". Residents driving onto Childwall Valley Road from Paignton Road in Childwall, fear ending up in a serious accident due to people parking on double yellow lines obstructing the view of drivers coming out of the junction. Local resident Neil Robertson uses the junction most days. He told the ECHO: "That junction between Childwall Valley Road and Paignton Road is an absolute nightmare - it is a death trap. You have cars parking on the double yellow lines by the mouth of the junction every single day. ‌ "If there is a car parked on double yellows, it is impossible for you to see and you could end up in a serious accident. I have nearly ended up in a serious accident multiple times. It's pure arrogance from these people, and they need to stop doing it." "Sometimes, what happens is the drivers coming from Belle Vale into Childwall wave you across because they all think we can make it; I had one woman who waved me across once and a Range Rover was hurtling towards me from the Fiveways. That Range Rover nearly went right through me and I had to floor it to get across. My mate had a crash there in his BMW." Another local resident, Gary Walker said: "It's really bad during rush hour, which is when there's more cars going up and down Childwall Valley Road, therefore making an accident more likely. ‌ "Rush hour is also when cars are more likely to be coming out of that junction more frequently, so it's all a big recipe for disaster." Another resident told the ECHO: "It's as if, to some people, double yellow lines and zig zag lines aren't to be taken seriously. They're obviously there for a reason and it's just selfishness for people to park on them." A spokesperson from Liverpool City Council said: "We understand and share concerns regarding irresponsible parking. ‌ "The safety of all residents and road users is of paramount importance to us. We take these allegations very seriously and want to assure the community that we will look into this matter thoroughly. "Liverpool City Council will monitor these areas by the relevant teams to assess the extent of any parking violations. Appropriate enforcement action will be taken where vehicles are found to be parked in contravention of regulations, especially where it compromises safety. "We urge all drivers to be considerate and adhere to parking regulations at all times. Obstructive and illegal parking can create hazardous conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, and other motorists, and we want to prevent any potential accidents. "We are committed to working towards a safer environment for everyone."
