More info Truro City have won the National South league title in style in what has been a heart-stopping championship race. Six teams could win the title on the final day - but it was the Cornish side who came out on top. There was a sell-out to see Truro City batter St Albans City after charging to a 3-0 lead within just 10 minutes with the early goals coming from Luke Jephcott, Dominic Javel Johnson-Fisher and Tyler Harvey. St Albans grabbed one back, but Conor Riley-Lowe immediately made it 4-1. There were nerves when in the space of a minute, St Albans scored a second, just as Torquay went 4-1 up, meaning there was only a two goal cushion. But Rocky Neal made it five for the Tinners and ease the nerves and spark celebrations. In a dramatic end to the season, Truro beat St Albans 5-2 with the win they needed to make it into the National League, the fifth tier of the English football for the first time in their history. Going into the final day of the season, there were six clubs in the running for the top slot but a Truro win would mean only Torquay United were in with a shout of catching them and claiming the title. The Gulls would have had to win and score three more goals than Truro which always looked like a big ask for their Devon rivals and so it proved, despite their 4-1 win. At the start of the season they were tipped for relegation. Today, Saturday, April 26, they were crowned champions.
