Canadians travelling by land back from the U.S. into B.C. are down 41 per cent. Despite living just a short distance from the Canada-U.S. border, locals don't appear to have any interest in heading over the artificial line. With Canadians already reducing trips to the U.S., the trend looks like it'll continue. In a poll by Vancouver is Awesome, nearly 79 per cent of readers say there's no chance they'll be travelling to the U.S. this summer. Another almost 12 per cent say they're unlikely to make the trip. That means more than 90 per cent of readers have little to no interest in travelling to the U.S. during the busiest time of year for travel between Metro Vancouver and the American Pacific Northwest. Typically, the neighbouring area of the U.S. is a popular destination from Metro Vancouver for everything from Blue Jays baseball games (when they visit Seattle) to shopping at American stores to the Olympic Mountains. However, cross-border trips by Canadians in general are down, and the upcoming games between the Mariners and Blue Jays have thousands of unsold tickets. According to Stats Canada, trips by automobile (like the passenger vehicles that cross the border at the Peace Arch) were down across the country by 32 per cent in March. In B.C. it's down over 41 per cent year-over-year. Vancouver Is Awesome polled 1660 readers and asked the question: How likely are you to travel to the U.S. this summer? The poll ran from 4/13/2025 to 4/18/2025. Of the 1660 votes, we can determine that 665 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:
