Red pollen warnings have been issued in parts of the south of England, Wales and parts of the Midlands from Monday, April 28, for the next five days, and multiple other areas UK areas have been issued with less severe amber "high" warnings. Hay fever, which affects more than ten million people in the UK, is an allergy to pollen grains released during the pollen season which normally runs from March to November in the UK. Throughout the pollen season, the Met Office issues a five-day pollen forecast to warn hay fever sufferers of when they can expect the worst symptoms. Symptoms of hay fever can include congestion, sneezing, itchy eyes and sometimes even headaches and hives. This "very high" warning remains in place across these six areas all week, until Friday, May 2, when South West England reduces to an amber "high" pollen warning. People who suffer from hay fever are urged to take antihistamines before going outside, take off their outdoor clothes when they get inside and to wash their hands and face to avoid the pollen particles as much as possible.
