Response teams were called to an address in the East Leake area just before midnight on Friday, April 11. On arrival, they found a 20-year-old man collapsed on the floor with a badly lacerated arm after he smashed a window. Confronted by a large amount of blood, PC Connor Sturdy applied a torniquet to the man’s upper arm, which a doctor said was crucial in saving the man's life. Other officers on the scene – PC Mark Burke, PS Becca Thomas and PC Karolina Widnic - helped pack the wound with gauze and check him over to make sure he had not sustained any other injuries. PC Sturdy said: “It was a real team effort and I’m proud to have worked alongside my fellow officers to save a man’s life. “As police officers, it’s our duty to protect and serve the community, so when we arrived all of our instincts kicked in. We send our well wishes to the injured man as he recovers.” Inspector Oliver Chadwick, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers arrived at a scene that was almost indescribable with written words and I cannot imagine what was going through their minds. “However, this did not deter the officers in their absolute professionalism, calmness, and complete focus on saving his life. They should be incredibly proud of upholding the core values of policing ensuring that no matter the situation, when there is a person in need, they will do anything they can to ensure that person lives.”
