‘I hate those’ Chris Davies has made it clear what transfers Birmingham City want Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has led the club back to the Championship at the first attempt with a League One record points haul Keshi Anderson takes a selfie of his Birmingham City teammates with the League One winners' trophy Chris Davies has held Keshi Anderson up as an example of what a Birmingham City winger should look like. Anderson netted the ninth goal of an impressive individual campaign in the 4-0 rout of Mansfield on Sunday as Blues breezed past the League One points record and ended their St Andrew’s fixtures unbeaten. ‌ The 30-year-old wasn’t recognised at the EFL Awards with a place in the League One Team of the Year, but he is in the running for Blues’ in-house Player of the Year. Article continues below Anderson will likely be joined by some new wingers in Blues’ squad for next season, with that position in line to be strengthened by the club’s recruitment team, but any newcomers will have to embrace the ugly side of the game. Anderson does that. “I noticed in the fifth session that he was a reliable winger,” Davies said of Anderson. “Then I started thinking that it was no coincidence that when the games really mattered last year, he played. “I thought that was quite interesting and then the more I watched him I thought he runs, he presses, and he can take you forward with his speed and his quality. ‌ “They’re the wingers that I want. I don’t want wingers that are good going forward and they don’t run backwards – I hate those wingers. “Keshi fitted into that well. He knows I trust him and he’s popped up with a lot of goals and assists. He’s had a great year.” Blues’ attention will soon turn to the summer transfer window in preparation for next season’s Championship. ‌ The club have publicly outlined their ambition to compete at the top-end of the league and Davies’ wish for the summer is simple. He commented: “We need to be better after the transfer window closes than we were going in. It’s hard to quantify what that is in numbers, but we need to make sure we come out of it in better shape. “We’re going up to a level which is much more unforgiving, with really big clubs and good players and we’re going to need to strengthen for that.” Article continues below How many players do Blues need?
