Spring Sports Stars: Who are the top juniors around Flint? Our picks, your votes

FLINT - As the spring high school sports’ season gets into full swing, we want to know who you think is the top junior athlete in the Flint area. We have 59 athletes on our poll, which will remain open until noon on May 5. Athletes from baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, golf, tennis, and track and field were selected for the poll. Stats for golf were based on iwanamaker.com while tennis stats were based on tennisreporting.com and track and field via athletic.net. Votes MUST be submitted in the poll at the bottom of the story in order for it to count. Votes by email will not be accepted. Hayden Wendling, New Lothrop (Baseball) A three-year varsity player coming off a breakout sophomore campaign, Wendling is hitting .514 with two doubles, a triple, and seven stolen bases this season. The junior pitcher/outfielder was a Mid-Michigan Activities Conference first-team and all-district honoree last season after hitting .379 with 50 hits, 36 RBIs, 44 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. Wyatt Jolman, Swartz Creek (Baseball) A first-team honoree in the Flint Metro League Stripes last season, Jolman hit .418 with 34 runs scored, 16 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases while holding four wins, 49 strikeouts, and a 1.80 ERA on the mound. Jolman went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and two stolen bases on Wednesday in a win over Linden. Jac Sandlin, Swartz Creek (Baseball) A second-team honoree in the Flint Metro League Stripes last season, Sandlin went 4-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs in a doubleheader against Linden on April 21. Eden Ackley, Owosso (Baseball) Ackley, a second-team honoree in the Flint Metro League Stars last season, is currently hitting .378 with a triple, a double, and 20 stolen bases. Ackley hit .309 (led the team) with 21 stolen bases and 20 walks last season. Thomas Niles, Goodrich (Baseball) A second-team honoree in the Flint Metro League Stars, Niles is hitting .455 with a 2.10 ERA in 3.1 innings of work on the mound. D’Marion Erlenbeck, Clio (Baseball) A second-team honoree in the Flint Metro League Stars, Erlenbeck holds an offensive slash line of .389/.463/.472 this season. Carson Olejniczak, Lapeer (Baseball) Three-year varsity starter and captain for both baseball and football, Olejniczak is hitting .250 with a .368 OBP this season. Aiden Tipton, Flint Kearsley (Baseball) A first-team honoree in the Flint Metro League Stripes last season, Tipton is hitting .524 with three doubles, a triple, and eight stolen bases this season. He has thrown 13.1 innings with a 2-1 record and a 1.57 ERA and 18 strikeouts. Tipton hit .276 with a .374 OBP, 18 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases while compiling 55.1 innings with four wins and 55 strikeouts, holding a 2.38 ERA last season. Chase Tobias, Flint Kearsley (Baseball) A second-team honoree in the Flint Metro League Stripes last season, Tobias has thrown 16 innings with a 2-0 record and a 0.43 ERA. He currently holds 22 strikeouts and a .109 batting average against. Carter Dirkse, Davison (Baseball) A second-team all-league selection in the Saginaw Valley League last season, Dirkse anchors the shortstop position and contributes quality innings for Davison. Ryan Nosek, Linden (Baseball) A second-team honoree in the Flint Metro League Stripes last season, Nosek is hitting .429 with four doubles this season. He has also thrown 9.2 innings with 10 strikeouts. Caden Appleton, Linden (Baseball) Appleton is currently hitting .367 with nine stolen bases this season. Zoe Swank, LakeVille Memorial (Softball) LakeVille Memorial’s leadoff hitter, Swank is currently hitting .455 with eight doubles, two triples, and two home runs this season. She has also contributed 22 innings on the mound with a 4-0 record and 25 strikeouts. Anabell Newbery, LakeVille Memorial (Softball) A power bat and LakeVille Memorial’s ace in the rotation, Newbery is hitting .577 with five doubles and one home run. She has also contributed 37.2 innings on the mound with 70 strikeouts and a 8-1 record. Emerson Bodzick, Flushing (Softball) One of the premier outfielders in the Flint Metro League, Bodzick holds an offensive slash line of .488/.543/.683 with nine stolen bases. Danica Dwyer, Owosso (Softball) Coming off a stellar basketball season, Dwyer is currently hitting .400 with five doubles, a home run, and 16 RBIs. Kayla Blumenschein, Grand Blanc (Softball) One-half of Grand Blanc’s dynamic pitching duo, Blumenschein is hitting .483 with three home runs and 12 RBIs while holding a 0.77 ERA with 58 strikeouts in 27.1 innings of work. Blumenschein was a second-team all-league honoree in the Saginaw Valley League last season. Leah Meyers, Lake Fenton (Softball) Meyers is currently hitting .355 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, and nine RBIs this season. She is 2-0 on mound with a 4.94 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 11.1 innings. Kelcy Sperling, Clio (Softball) Sperling was a first-team honoree in the Flint Metro League Stars and is well on her way to another first-team selection this season. Ally Turkowski, Fenton (Softball) Turkowski is currently hitting .467 with a double and two home runs. Mallory Heroux, New Lothrop (Softball) Electric both at the plate and on the mound, Heroux has compiled a great season so far for New Lothrop. Heroux currently holds a 7-4 record on the mound with 88 strikeouts, a 3.289 ERA, and a 1.247 WHIP She is hitting .364 with three doubles and four home runs. Heroux picked up both wins on the mound on April 21 against Birch Run and tallied two home runs in the series. Autumn Wilkinson, Clio (Soccer) Wilkinson, who earned second-team all-league honors in the Flint Metro league, has tallied seven goals and five assists this season. She had eight goals and eight assists in her breakout sophomore campaign. Samantha Beller, Davison (Soccer) A pure scorer, Beller tallied 20 goals last season and earned first-team all-league honors in the Saginaw Valley League. Kayla Rousseau, Flushing (Soccer) A breakout star for Flushing this year, Rousseau has 12 goals and four assists this season. Miley Harrington, Montrose (Soccer) Building off her 18 goals and 10 assists last season, Harrington currently has 12 goals and seven assists. Shelby Hart, Grand Blanc (Soccer) An anchor for Grand Blanc’s defense, Hart, who earned second-team all-league honors in the Saginaw Valley League last season, is a quick and athletic defender with great knowledge for the game. Grand Blanc has allowed only four goals in eight games when she’s on the field. Taylor Hall, Holly (Soccer) A stout defender for the Bronchos, Hall has been stellar this season for a surging Holly squad. Holly has allowed only four goals in eight games when she’s on the field. Madelyn Teffner, Lake Fenton (Soccer) Teffner currently has three goals and six assists this season for the Blue Devils. Kyla Nahs, Powers Catholic (Soccer) A second-team all-league honoree in the Saginaw Valley League last season, Nahs continues to be efficient for the Chargers. Bailey Britton, Fenton (Soccer) A second-team all-league honoree in the Flint Metro League, Britton is on track to put together another successful year for the Tigers. Tori Ferguson, Genesee Christian (Soccer) A defensive specialist, Ferguson has helped the Genesee Christian defense allow only 10 goals in seven games, earning two shutouts. Madi Houle, Genesee Christian (Soccer) A defensive specialist, Houle has helped the Genesee Christian defense allow only 10 goals in seven games, earning two shutouts. Molly Leyes, Grand Blanc (Girls Lacrosse) Grand Blanc’s go-to scorer, Leyes is coming off a six-goal game in a win over Midland on April 22. She also scored six in a win over Powers Catholic on April 15. Roxanne Coleman, Lake Fenton (Girls Lacrosse) Lake Fenton/Goodrich’s anchor in net, Coleman has been efficient for her squad this season. Coleman is a three-year varsity starter. Grace Perry, Fenton (Girls Lacrosse) Perry has tallied 18 ground balls, 25 goals, 14 assists, 29 draw controls so far this season. She has tallied seven goals in one game as well. Nate Roberts, Fenton (Boys Lacrosse) A first-team all-league honoree in the Flint Metro last season, Roberts has continued to be impressive for his squad this season. Gabrielle Hufnagel, Owosso (Girls T&F) A state qualifier in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles last season, Hufnagel already holds numerous first-place finishes in the multiple events for Owosso. Hufnagel earned an all-state placement at the MHSAA Division 2 state finals last season with a seventh-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Calie Griswold, Davison (Girls T&F) Holding multiple first-place finishes in pole vault already this season, Griswold qualified for the MHSAA Division 1 state finals meet for pole vault last season and was the Saginaw Valley League champion and regional runner-up in the event. Samantha Brown, Clio (Girls T&F) A Division 2 state qualifier last year, Brown has a pair of first-place finishes in the 1600-meter and a win in the 800-meter this season. Rachel Steinacker, Corunna (Girls T&F) A Division 2 state qualifier last year, Steinacker has a pair of firstplace finishes in high jump and a win in discus this season.- Juewelz Redwine, Mt. Morris (Boys T&F) Already off to a strong start this season, Redwine finished sixth and earned all-state honors while also qualifying for states as a member of the 4x100 relay team, which took 12th. Redwine was the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference and regional champion in both events last season and seems to only be improving as he enters his junior campaign. Devante Deleon, Burton Atherton (Boys T&F) Holding a handful of first-place finishes already this season, Deleon earned fifth (all-state) in the 110-meter hurdles at the MHSAA Division 3 state finals last season. Deleon was the Genesee Area Conference and regional champion in the 110 hurdles and also won the regional championship in the 300-meter hurdles. Grant Roberts, Powers Catholic (Boys T&F) Roberts is already off to a strong start with numerous first-place finishes across multiple events. Bryce Gross, Powers Catholic (Boys T&F) Gross holds multiple first-place finishes across the 800-meter, 1600-meter, and relays for the Chargers. Tyler Leach, LakeVille Memorial (Boys T&F) Leach is coming off a year where he qualified for the MHSAA Division 3 state finals in the 3200-meter and really made a name for himself in the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference. Leach holds multiple first-place finishes across different events. Max Baade, Owosso (Boys T&F) A do-it-all kind of competitor, Baade holds multiple first-place finishes across different events. Christopher Brownlee, Swartz Creek (Boys T&F) Brownlee is already competing like he’s ready to qualify for the Division 1 state finals again in shot put, earning a pair of first-place finishes this season. AJ Gasper, Flushing (Golf) A second-team all-league honoree in the Flint Metro League last season, Gasper has shot a 36 and a 38 in his last two rounds. Preston Muntin, Fenton (Golf) A second-team all-league honoree in the Flint Metro League last season, Muntin shot a 40 and 41 in his last two rounds Lucas Sensor, Linden (Golf) A second-team all-league honoree in the Flint Metro League last season, Sensor shot 40 twice in his last two rounds. Colton Swartz, Holly (Golf) A second-team all-league honoree in the Flint Metro League last season, Swartz shot a 43 and 37 his last two rounds. Lolyana Yapchai, Powers Catholic (Tennis) Yapchai currently holds a 7-3 record this season. Ellisen LaFay, Powers Catholic (Tennis) LaFay currently holds a 7-3 record this season. Avery Taylor, Durand (Tennis) Taylor currently holds a 5-1 record this season. Savannah Edwards, Swartz Creek (Tennis) Edwards currently holds a 4-3 record this season.
