May will see two bank holidays – Early May Bank Holiday, on May 5, and Spring Bank Holiday on May 26. The two dates could impact thousands of people who are claiming benefits from the Department of Work and Pensions and HMRC, including Child Benefit and Universal Credit. Both the DWP and HMRC do not pay any benefits on bank holidays and instead are paid on the previous working day. For those who receive their benefits on May 5, it will instead be paid three days earlier on Friday, May 2. Article continues below Meanwhile, if you're due to receive payments on May 26, it will be paid out on Friday, May 23. But there will be no changes to the amount of money that will be paid. However, the change of dates means that the money will need to last longer than previous months due to being paid earlier. If you had been expecting your benefits but they hadn't arrived, you need to contact the Department of Work and Pensions on 0800 328 5644.
